Notice of Transition to Monthly Billing

Beginning in January 2023, the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority (JCMUA) and Veolia will transition customers who are currently billed on a quarterly basis to monthly billing.
Monthly billing helps customers more efficiently manage household finances and budgets. It also provides customers with more frequent and timely information about their water and sewer usage. Additionally, monthly billing will allow for quicker detection of water leaks, which can result in direct cost savings for JCMUA customers.

Residential Programs

Lead Replacement Incentive Program

Beginning in February 2022, all residents with known lead service lines will receive a certified letter notifying them that they currently have a lead service line that will be replaced. Look up your address here: https://www.leadfreejc.com/

Jersey City MUA expects to replace over 1,000 lead service lines per year. Properties will be prioritized based on factors including but not limited to the targeting of known lead service lines, lead service line replacement for disadvantaged consumers and populations most sensitive to the effects of lead, in accordance with federal regulations.

All properties with known lead services lines will automatically be scheduled for replacement over the next 10 years. If you have questions or concerns, call JCMUA’s dedicated customer support line at (201) 365-6189 or email [email protected]

Sewer Abatement Guidelines

YEARLY RENEWAL OF SEWERAGE ABATEMENTS

The Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority resolution of January 20, 1983 states that all sewerage abatements must be reviewed, resubmitted, and approved every year. Abatement applications must be completed in full with the appropriate fees included. No abatements will be renewed until all the forms and requested material is received and a facility inspection is performed.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND CHECKS TO SUEZ WATER JERSEY CITY. All Checks should be made out to the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority. Please include a copy of a recent water and sewer bill.

If there are any changes made at your facility, they must be reported with the appropriate backup paper work included.

Your partial abatement renewal application for the year 2022 will be due June 30, 2022. Failure to return the completed application and fees will result in loss of your partial sewerage abatement. If there are any questions, please contact Ryan Slager at 201.432.1150.

Instructions:

  • Select the application and print out the forms.
  • Attach the check with the appropriate fee amount. Checks should be made out to the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority.
  • Attach a copy of the recent water and sewer bill.
  • Send all requested material to 13 – 15 Linden Ave East, Jersey City, NJ 07305

How do I track my water usage?

The method by which the water meter is read varies depending on your location, the age of the meter, and the type of meter. The latest technologies allow us to read meters via radio frequency which can be done by walking or driving by the structure. We are moving towards reading via tower collection in some areas as well. However, there are still meters that are read from devices outside the structure that are either viewed or touched to obtain the reading. There are also meters that do not have a reading device at all. These meters are read by viewing and recording the reading from the meter’s register.
